Writing Consultations

We work with MacEwan students in all programs, in all years of study, and at any stage of the writing process.

Our tutors can support you in understanding your assignment guidelines, answer questions that arise while you’re writing, or review a draft of your document and provide feedback for revising your paragraphs and citations. However, we will not edit, proofread, or make any direct changes to your documents.

Please note, when making an appointment, tutors will expect to see a written draft and/or an assignment guideline to discuss during your session.

The Writing Centre is located in the Library, room 6-202. Please check the Library’s Hours of Operation to plan your visit. The Writing Centre is closed on weekends and statutory holidays.

In-Person or Online Appointments

If you choose an online appointment, select your appointment 5-10 minutes before appointment start time. Then, click “Start or Join Online Consultation.”

In-person appointments are in room 6-202 in the Library.

Written Feedback

Do you want feedback on your paper without having to show up for an appointment? Schedule a Written Feedback appointment, and upload your paper (doc or docx only) and assignment guidelines (doc, docx, or pdf) on your appointment form. Then, you will be emailed when the feedback is done, and there will be a separate email with the paper attached.

The appointment date and time may not coincide with when the written feedback will be completed and emailed to you, but we will try to return feedback within 1-2 business days. Tutors will typically spend an hour with your paper, reading and making comments on as much as they can before returning it to you. If you would like your tutor to review a specific part or feature of your paper, please include these requests in your appointment form. Additionally, tutors may limit their feedback when reviewing long papers (ex., over 10 pages) or during periods of high traffic at the Writing Centre.

Your paper does not have to be finished: you can submit a few paragraphs or a draft in progress. We strongly encourage all students to make follow-up appointments as they work through their papers. Make sure you plan accordingly and submit early, as you will need time to revise after each tutoring session!
