Audio Room

Now open for bookings.

The Audio Room is a room equipped with a turntable, CD player and amplifier, where students can listen to the library’s vinyl (forthcoming) and CD collections.

The audio room can be booked for listening and headphones can be borrowed from the library services desk in the John L. Haar Library.

The room is bookable for 1-2hrs Monday thru Friday, 9am to 7pm; Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 7pm. Please book this room only if you are going to use the audio equipment.

How to access the Audio Room and borrow headphones

  • Login to the myMacEwan portal; select Room Booking System from the lefthand menu
  • On the Room Booking System Page:
    • Under “Self Service,” select “Find a Room”
    • Under “Booking Type,” select “Library Audio Room” from the dropdown menu
    • Check the availability of the Audio Room
    • Book your preferred time in 1 to 2 hour timeslots and confirm your booking
  • You wiill be emailed a booking confirmation to your mymacewan email once your booking is confirmed
  • Show your booking confirmation email at the Library Services Desk to receive the key card; you can also ask to borrow headphones:
    • Focal Celestee headphones (very high quality) or
    • Grado SR80 headphones (good quality)
  • Use the keycard to enter the Audio Room in 7-202G
  • Return keycard and headphones to Library Services Desk when finished

How to play CDs and vinyl on the audio components

CDs

  • If wearing the headphones, remove and place on headphone holder
  • On the amplifier component, press “CD”
  • On the CD component, press “Open.” The CD drawer should open and you can place the CD, label side up, into the drawer
  • Push the drawer closed and press the “Play/Pause/Skip” knob to play
  • Put the headphones on, plug them into the amplifier and use the “Play/Pause/Skip” knob to adjust the volume

Vinyl LPs

  • If wearing the headphones, remove and place on headphone holder
  • On the amplifier component, press “Phono”
  • Remove plastic cover from turntable, place vinyl record on platter
  • Release the tone arm lock if it’s in place
  • Use dust brush to brush dirt and dust from record
  • Rotate “Off/On” knob to “On” position
  • Press “Start/Stop” button to start the turntable
  • Use the control arm to lift the tone arm then place on record where desired
  • Put the headphones on, plug them into the amplifier and adjust volume
  • When finished, use the control arm to lift tone arm from record and return it to rest position
  • Press “Start/Stop” to stop turntable
  • Rotate “Off/On” knob to “Off” position
