Books

The library provides access to an extensive collection of books, both in the library and available online in electronic formats (eBooks).

Search for Books

Use the main Library Search to search for books by keyword (e.g., “Cold War” AND “Soviet Union”) or by title (e.g., “Atlas Shrugged”).

Limit to “Books” or “eBooks” under Source Type to the left of your search results.

Each result will include an availability status:

On shelf

The book is available for you to take out from the library.

Note that physical copies of books are arranged alphabetically on shelves in the library using alphanumeric call numbers (e.g., QL737 .C22 W36 2008 is found in the Q section.

Checked Out

Select “Place Hold” to have the book delivered to MacEwan Library. You will receive an email when it is available for you to check it out from the holds shelf located near the main Library Services desk.

Available Online

The book can be read online by selecting “Read online.”

Note that eBooks cannot typically be saved or printed in their entirety, and some may only allow for one reader at a time.

Available at a partner library (book)

Either go to the partner library to take the book out using your MacEwan ID card, or select “Place Hold” to have the book delivered to MacEwan Library. You will receive an email when it is available for you to check it out from the holds shelf located near the main Library Services desk.

Available at a partner library (eBook)

eBooks cannot be shared between institutions. Try placing an Interlibrary Loan Request for the work, or contact Library Help to explore other options.

Find Children’s Books

To find children’s books, go to the Library's Advanced Search, limit to “Juvenile” under Special Collections, and perform a keyword search (e.g., singing AND games) or search for a work by title (“Betty Bunny loves chocolate cake”).

Each result will include availability information (see above). Most titles will be located in the Library’s Children's Collection, which is located on the west side of the main floor of MacEwan’s John L. Haar Library.
