Textbooks

The Library purchases at least 1 copy of most required print course textbooks available for purchase from the MacEwan Bookstore (excluding novels, loose-leaf texts, and workbooks).

Find Textbooks in the Library

Textbooks are available from the MacEwan Library Services Desk in the John L. Haar Library for short-term loan (typically two hours) on a first-come, first-served basis. Textbooks checked out within 3 hours of the library closing will be due back within the first hour of the library opening the next day. Visit the library’s Borrowing page for information about loan periods and overdue fines.

To borrow a textbook, you must know the title. It is helpful to Library staff if you also know the author(s) and edition number, if applicable. To find your textbook information, either:

  • Enter your Student ID# in the MacEwan Bookstore textbook list generator, or...
  • Locate the textbook title in the course outline for the course you are registered in

To verify whether or not the Library has the textbook you need, go to the Library's Advanced Search, limit to “Textbook” under Special Collections, and search for the work by title.

Request Digital Copies

Students can use the Library's Scan on Demand service to request one chapter from a textbook in the Library’s physical collection.

NOTE: Entire textbooks cannot be scanned due to copyright restrictions and repeat requests for the same title are monitored. Requests will typically be processed within 2 business days.
