Specifications

Our Sewing Machine
The Makerspace has a Singer 4423 Heavy Duty machine. See the official Singer manual here

Size Limitations
The Singer 4423 Heavy Duty is stronger than most home machines, but it still has limits. Avoid sewing more than 4 layers of denim or thick leather over 2mm. If you are not sure if your fabric is too thick you can try the coin test. Stack a few quarters or nickels next to your fabric and use the guide below to assess whether it’s safe to sew.

Materials

The Makerspace has thread and a selection of donated fabrics that you can use for sewing projects. You're also welcome to bring your own material to use with the sewing machine. It is always a good idea to test sewing on a scrap of the same fabric as your project fabric.
