Paying Fines / Paying for Lost Materials

You can make a payment for library fines and lost items online 24 hours a day. To pay online, go to the library website and login to My Account. Select “Fines” from the menu and a link to the online payment option will appear.

Fine payments are also accepted at the John L. Haar Library or at any NEOS Library Service desk. Payments for lost items can be made online, or at the Library that owns the item.

MacEwan Library accepts payments in cash, or by cheque, debit, and credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express).

Renewals and Holds

Not done with that item? Renew it.

Renew your items online at My Account. Items can also be renewed in person at any MacEwan or NEOS library service desk or over the phone. Items that other library users have requested cannot be renewed. Overdue items may be renewed, but late charges will apply up to the renewal date.

How do I renew a book if I have a TAL membership?

If you have a book that you want to renew and you have borrowed it from MacEwan Library with your TAL membership, click here to access your NEOS account.

Placing a Hold

  • Log in to My Account with your MacEwan user name and password
  • Click the “Place hold” button beside the item you want to request
  • Choose the campus library where you want to pick the item up
  • Once the request is made, the first available copy will be sent to the library you selected for pickup. Some DVDs and CDs in non-MacEwan collections may be unavailable for loan to MacEwan students
  • You’ll receive an email when your item arrives – pick it up within 5 days!
  • TAL members will need to place holds using the NEOS catalogue

When a hold is placed on an item that has a loan period longer than two weeks, a recall is issued. Recalled items are given a shorter loan period and notifications will be sent to your MacEwan email. Visual notifications will also appear in the Checkouts section of your My Account.

When your library account has over $50.00 in fines or a recalled book overdue, your account will be blocked. Blocked accounts can't renew or checkout new materials. To remove the block from your account, you will need to return the overdue materials and pay the fines so your account is under $50.00. You can make a full or partial payment in person at any NEOS library, or you can pay the full amount online through My Account and select the "Fines" link.

Most materials can be returned to any MacEwan or NEOS library book return. Reserve collection items, interlibrary loans, and AV equipment must be returned to the service desk that they were borrowed from.
