Syllabus Description

We invite faculty to reproduce the following blurb in their syllabi to help publicize the Writing Centre and encourage students to access our support. Some students are unsure if their instructor allows them to seek support from the Writing Centre; communicating your stance on the use of the Writing Centre can help clarify any confusion.

The Writing Centre at MacEwan University Library has tutors that are trained and experienced MacEwan students studying across a variety of disciplines. They will ask you questions, describe their experience reading your work, and make suggestions to help you achieve your writing goals. Book an appointment online to receive help in-person, by video call, or through written feedback. Visit their website to learn more. 

Students are encouraged to visit the Writing Centre when they have questions about written academic work. This is different from asking a friend for help, since: 

  1. Tutors are trained under the principles of academic integrity and can help you improve your writing skills. They do not complete academic work for you.
  2. The services in the Writing Centre are available to all MacEwan students, so it is not an unfair advantage to access them.
  3. The help provided in the Writing Centre is designed to improve your self-sufficiency. You may develop skills that can be applied to future academic work, too!

Custom Resources

A Writing Centre professional staff member can work with you to create a resource to support the writing requirements of your assignment, tailored to your discipline. This could be in the form of an infographic, a step-by-step guide, a video, or another resource type. Email us at writingcentre@macewan.ca to discuss your idea. 

Assignment Briefing

Email your assignment description to writingcentre@macewan.ca. That way, we will work with our peer tutors to understand your assignment and prepare for writing appointments with your students.
