Personal Statement About this Work
I selected this book because it is an excellent story in human thinking which will inspire both mathematicians and non-mathematicians.
Fermat's Last Theorem is an easy-to-explain problem: Andrew Wiles, a ten-year-old boy, understood the question. Solving it is a different matter.
Since proposed, more than 350 years passed. Great mathematicians like Leonhard Euler or Everiste Galois, to name a few, had to admit defeat. It is an embarrassing situation since its author, Pierre de Fermat, claimed to have a proof, but lack of space or time made him not show his evidence.
The tendency is to specialize while doing any research. Often, experts in different topics need help understanding each other research, let alone non-experts trying to work on a problem. A genius's role is to uncover the relationship between various topics and use that to solve great problems. In a nutshell, this is what Andrew Wiles did to solve Fermat's Last Theorem. But this is just the first piece of a great puzzle. I hope you will find the time to read the remaining puzzle components in the book.
