Half of a Yellow Sun

This book was impactful for me because of the rich characters and skillful storytelling. I read it for the first time while embarking on work in the settlement sector in Canada. The powerful narrative in this novel stayed as a reminder of the experiences people silently carry with them. The book emphasized for me, the importance of empathy, compassion, and understanding the many stories that lie beneath the surface for people. It also underscored the power of literature to promote empathy and broaden perspectives. This in turn, influenced the way I chose to approach some aspects of settlement and language in my work. This book has a rich and well told narrative; it remains one of my favorite novels.
