Personal Statement About this Work
I discovered medieval philosophy as a lost undergraduate, having just left the engineering programme at the University of Toronto. I had spent high school telling everyone that I would be an engineer, but a year into the programme, I found that I was not as good at it as I thought I would be, and it did not interest me as I thought it would. So, on a whim, I took a class in medieval philosophy and, to my surprise, found my life's work and passion. For, I found that a thousand years ago, philosophers from Uzbekistan to England debated questions about morality, God, the human soul, etc., with a precision and rigour I thought was only to be found in the natural sciences. Since then, these philosophers have been my teachers and friends, and I hope, through this work, MacEwan students can get to know them.
