This event is part of MacEwan University’s Black History Month Human Library. ‘...Still Not Considered…’ – The historical and present-day challenges of living in Alberta as an African American Albertan descendant is presented by Deborah Dobbins, Shiloh Centre for Multicultural Roots.

“For well over one hundred years of contributing to the development and success of Canada’s Prairie provinces, we are still considered, less-than-equal Canadian born citizens and still not recognized as being relevant to the post colonial Alberta foundation when there is public acknowledgement or celebrations of Alberta’s rich mosaic of diversity. I am here to share a snapshot of our daily challenges of unjust treatment, discrimination, marginalization and microaggressions experienced, with the purpose to address systemic discrimination and to create a catalyst for discussion of justice and equity as well as work toward ensuring there is deliberate and accurate inclusion of our history and contributions Canada into the Alberta educational curriculum.” - Deborah Dobbins
