COVID-19 Library Services Update

Library Hours and Spaces

  • John L. Haar Library is CLOSED until further notice.  

    • Starting March 1st, our Library Takeout pickup location will be located in 7-292. Pick up holds, ID cards, and student laptops, or get assistance with your library account and fines. Open during Library Takeout hours.

    • Computers and study space are available during Technology Support Desk hours on the Technology Support side of the Library (second floor, Building 6).

      • Starting March 1st, bookable study rooms will be available on the Technology Support side of the Library (second floor, Building 6). Book a group study room using MacEwan's Room Booking System or through myPortal.

  • Chat and text services will be available during Library Chat hours.

Library Collections

  • Online collections are available from the Library Website

  • While the Library is closed, MacEwan students/faculty/staff can still borrow items from MacEwan Library and partner libraries:

    • Use our Library Takeout Service to borrow items (including textbooks). This service will remain available until the library reopens. Item pickup will be at the Technology Support Desk (Building 6, second floor) during their desk hours.

    • Use our Scan on Demand Service to request scanned sections of print books in our collection (For MacEwan students, staff, and faculty only) - Requests will be processed Monday-Friday. 

  • Laptops can be requested by contacting library@macewan.ca. Pickup will be at the Tech Support Desk (second floor, Building 6). 

  • For access to subject-specific databases and resources, use our Library Subject Guides.  

Due Dates, Fines, and Returning Items

  • Unless notified otherwise, you can keep library items up to their current due date or renew them.

  • Items can be returned to our return bins throughout campus.  

  • Log into My Account to review due dates for your library items and pay fines. 

Research & Writing Support

  • Research support is available through chat and text

    • Get in contact with your Subject Librarian for an online research consultation using the "Book an Appointment" button on the library's Subject Guides or email your librarian directly. 

  • Writing and citation support is available. 

Technology Support

Health and Safety Procedures 

  • Seating and computers have been spread out to encourage physical distancing. 

  • Starting Monday, February 8th, we will no longer quarantine library items. The latest scientific evidence shows the risk of COVID transmission through inanimate surfaces (including library items) is very low. Onsite library staff continue to follow University health and safety procedures including regular hand washing and wearing masks.
