Library proxy server changes

On Monday July 27th the library will be migrating the EZproxy application (used for authenticating and providing access to licensed electronic resources) to a new server. The EZproxy application has been employed extensively throughout the college and plans have been made to minimize the impact of this migration.

The most significant aspect of the move is the requirement to change the URL associated with the EZproxy application. The Library IT unit will ensure that updates to the URL are applied to the library web site, library catalogue, RefWorks, GetIT! link resolver and Library pages in the portal.

However faculty, staff or students who have created links to electronic resources on course pages, Blackboard content or elsewhere, will need to update these links to remove references to 'lrc' in the URL. For example:

Old URL:
http://ezproxy.lrc.macewan.ca/login?url=

New URL
http://ezproxy.macewan.ca/login?url=

In addition, any persistent links to journals (or journal articles) created using the GetIT! link resolver will need to be modified as this application is also being migrated. As with the EZproxy URL, faculty, staff or students who have created links to electronic resources on course pages, Blackboard content or elsewhere, using the GetIT! link resolver will need to update these links to remove references to 'www.lrc' in the URL. For example:

Old URL
http://www.lrc.macewan.ca/cgi-bin/SFX/url.pl/25V

New URL
http://library.macewan.ca/cgi-bin/SFX/url.pl/25V

Please review any links to library resources that may exist in your areas to ensure the URLs noted above are updated as required. The library will maintain the EZproxy application on the old server for a short period to allow sufficient time for links to be updated. We will advise again in the fall when plans to permanently retire the old server are finalized.
